Dunk tank transfer hatches

Pass-through chambers with a disinfectant basin, used in high-containment laboratories to move small acid- and alkali-resistant items through a liquid disinfection barrier between two rooms.

Description

A dunk tank transfer hatch is a special form of pass box built around a basin of disinfectant. It is installed between two laboratories, or between a laboratory and a corridor, and items pass through the liquid barrier so the two rooms never share airflow. Double doors with a mechanical compression interlock keep the doors from opening together, preventing cross-contamination between the rooms. The basin disinfects small items that tolerate acid and alkali but cannot be sterilized by heat, pressure or UV, and an optional waste liquid system contains the used disinfectant. The chamber is made in 304 or 316 stainless steel. A low-level audible and visual alarm warns when the liquid level no longer covers the items, and emergency stop buttons on both sides protect operators. The unit works with phenolics, glutaraldehyde, quaternary ammonium compounds, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, povidone-iodine and sodium hypochlorite, so the disinfection chemistry can follow the site's procedure.

Features

  • Liquid disinfection barrier between two rooms; no shared airflow through the hatch.
  • Double-door mechanical compression interlock excludes cross-contamination.
  • 304 or 316 stainless steel construction.
  • Low-level audible and visual alarm; emergency stops on both sides.
  • Compatible with phenolics, glutaraldehyde, quaternary ammonium, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, povidone-iodine and hypochlorite.

Applications

  • BSL-3 and BSL-4 laboratories and their isolation zones
  • Hospitals and medical containment areas
  • Biopharmaceutical plants and laboratories
  • Electronics, microelectronics and food processing controlled areas

Supply scope

What is supplied, and what stays with the buyer.

  • Transfer hatch supplied as a fixed configuration by basin size, body material and door arrangement, confirmed before quotation.
  • Quoted with the basin, door interlock and alarm set; the waste liquid system and viewing window are listed when required.
  • Wall opening preparation, mounting and sealing on site stay with the buyer or the buyer's contractor; the buyer defines the disinfectant.

Configurations

Fixed configurations that can be quoted.

A configuration code fixes the dimensions, electrical data, materials and documents. Quote requests that reference a code skip the specification round.

Configurations for this family are quoted on request.

What we need to quote

Inputs that fix the configuration.

  1. 01

Opening dimensions, wall thickness and the items passing through (size, weight, material resistance)

  2. 02

Disinfectant to be used, its concentration and the required contact time

  3. 03

Whether a waste liquid system, viewing window or emergency stops are required

  4. 04

Quantity and destination country or port
